Too Busy!

Life seems to be going faster and faster! For me anyway. Am I slowing down or is life speeding up? Probably some of both. Yet I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Solomon warned us that it is not wise to burn the candle at both ends (yet we do). For two weekends in a row I traveled to the Edmonton area. We drove to Camrose to visit Suzanne and Thomas at Easter. Then the next weekend I had a funeral in Thorhild. Last weekend was quite busy because I decided to seed our lawn that weekend and it happend to be spring cleaning day for Sexsmith. So I hauled three loads of jusk and garbage to the big bins and two loads of old dirt (from landscaping) to a house being back filled. That was in between seeding and wattering the lawn.

All this week I've been busy watering the newly planted lawn before and after my 9 to 10 hour work days. Still made it to two meetings Tuesday evening and Prayer Meeting on Wednesday. Today I spent the better part of the day fixing lights at the church (I'm the "Facilities Manager," a fancy title for maintenance man!)between waterings.

I'm not complaining. I realize most people are over busy these days, and many are much busier than me. In fact Colleen put in a 13+ hour day this week, and the rest were hectic for her too. It's our boom economy up here as much as anything. I'm sure I was busier when I was pastoring, yet it seems I'm working harder now (awe but with less stress!).

However I am reminded of Solomon's words: "In vain you rise up early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat..." (Psalm 127:2 NIV) On my bus trip I read Phil Callaway's book "Who Put My Life on Fast Forward." He gives some tips on how to slow down and enjoy life. In a nut shell, get back to proper priorities instead of chasing the elusive Dollar.

So what do I do?
Religeously do two things on Sundays: morning church and afternoon snooze.
Have a snoose at work after lunch (usually in the truck but sometimes on the office couch--there is photographic evidence).
Try to make it to Prayer Meeting.
Resign from being church maintenance guy: effective the end of June.
Don't fuss that the house renovations are on hold for the moment.
Catch up on the home books (only six months behind) but not all at once!
Take time for God (and the Bible) each day.

What do you do? What else should I do? I'd love to hear what you have to say!
All respondants will receive a copy of "The Stress Diet." It's guarenteed to reduce stress almost immediately!

Comments:
With both of you working full-time, a normal life-routine, lived at a reasonable pace, is nearly impossible! (Been there, done that, and know how awful it is!) Something has to give somewhere, but it sounds like you're working on that plan already. Your personal time spent alone with God (nurturing your relationship with Him), and your personal time spent alone with your wife (nurturing your marriage) will ultimately provide the greatest benefit to your quality of life.

Thanks

Life anymore is speeding faster and faster with more we need to do but can't seem to complete. All of us are growing older which is naturally slowing us down. With having RuthAnn I try to not do so much that I find she has gone by the wayside with me feeling bad that I didn't just take time to sit and read her a book or take time to go outside with her while she plays.I find I slip to the side and let Dan keep up with her until I realize oops,Grandma put things to do aside and get RuthAnn into your arms for some hugs and kisses. It all definately keeps my going, and going, and going, and going ect...................

Is the oldest resident in Thorhild still living or he passed away? The one who gave me a leather belt?

"Wild Bill" passed away about a year ago. He was not the oldest resident but was the most visable senior until he lost his health.

I agree being to busy can where you out. I am learning that more and more I just pray that the Lord will guide me as I am sure you do. we live in a fast paced world and it is hard to keep up.
