Off To Camp

This is in front of the Dining Hall at Deer Valley Meadows. There are several other buildings that make up this rather large camp. It it the Church of God's camp. We were there yesterday for two purposes. One was to see Thomas off to his first week at camp. Here he is with his friend Josh, getting their bags out of the car. (Josh is Deb's, Suzanne's maid or honor, son.)

They were soon registered and headed off to their cabin. It was locked and they had to wait for their counsellor to come.

Yes that is a broom in Thomas's hand. He and Josh each got a teddy bear when they registered. Pray that they have a great week at camp in every way.

This is the lodge building where they registered.

From the dining hall you can look down into the Red Deer River valley. When this land was first considered for a camp 25 years ago, "Cowboy Preacher Bill" and his wife saw deer cross this meadow while they were praying about it. Hence the camp is named: "Deer Valley Meadows."

Roger and Mikayla enjoyed touring the grounds.

Brian was busy looking after his family.

Afterwords, Colleen and I enjoyed a Southern Gospel concert in honor of the 25th anniversary of Deer Valley Meadows.
One quartet was "Glory Bound" from here in Camrose. Yes, one of them sings bass.

The other quartet was "Potters Clay." They are well known throughout Alberta. Colleen and I saw them last year in Grande Prairie when they were touring with Tim Lovelace. Even with their 15 year old pianist, the quartet's average age is still 54!

Both quartets came together for the last two songs. It was wonderful! They sang "Loving God, Loving Each Other" and then "I've Never Been This Homesick Before." It touch me enough that I cried a little bit.
